Sundance Square is the heart of it, a few blocks of plazas, patios and theaters that stay lively well into the evening. On a warm Saturday you'll see everyone hanging out by the fountains, people lining up for a show at Bass Performance Hall and every patio full. The Trinity River trails are a few minutes away if you want to get outside for a run or a dog walk.
You can do a lot on foot. Dinner, coffee, the plaza and the Water Gardens are all close together. For everything else, I-30 and I-35W run along the edge of downtown, with the Stockyards and the Cultural District just a short drive away. The Texas & Pacific station connects downtown to DFW Airport by TEXRail and toward Dallas on the Trinity Railway Express, which is handy if you travel for work.
